Frankfort or Bust!

Well, I am a little late on posting this, but better late than never.

A few weekends ago we went with the Kinkades to visit the KY capital...Frankfort. (We figured if we were going to be Kentuckians, we should at least check out our state's history). Anyway, we had a lot of fun and discovered that Frankfort is a very neat city. It's a busy, capital city with a small town feel. Here are some pics from the trip.

We started our trip with a visit to the capital building. This is a gorgeous building!

Now, the outside is gorgeous, but the inside architecture is truly breath-taking. You walk in and simply feel the need to just be quiet. The inside is filled with white marble floors, columns an archways. This picture is taken from one end of the building to the other:


There were also several random statues in the middle of the building. You can kind of see Abraham Lincoln's head sticking up in the picture above. So, we got a closer look. Here are Jared and Daniel with Jefferson Davis...

After our tour of the Capital building, we went and had lunch at a place called Gibby's in downtown Frankfort. It was some good ole greasy food. Me and Emily had the frito chili pie...highly recommended! Then we browsed through some book stores and coffee shops as we attempted to work off some of the thousands of calories we consumed for lunch.After our tour of downtown, we headed over to a candy shop called Rebecca Ruth. Rebecca Ruth was established in 1919 (I think!) and was the originator of the Bourbon Ball. We were still pretty stuffed from lunch, which was probably a good thing because all we had room for in our tummies was 1 bourbon ball a piece (which was delicious, I might add). Normally you can get a tour of Rebecca Ruth, but they don't give them on Saturdays, so we were out of luck.



So, there were only two weird things about the day. One...inside the capital there are several cases full of dolls. These dolls are replicas of all the first ladies in Kentucky. If you ask me...kind of creepy!!!

Overall, it was a really fun day. We had a lot of fun just hanging out and doing random things. We absolutely love having Daniel and Emily in Kentucky with us. They have made this transition to Kentucky a THOUSAND times easier than it could have been. The Lord truly does work things out and He provides all things that you need as soon as you truly need them...even when the thing you need is simply friends!

Getting Organized!

We got a new book shelf last week! We're pumped about it. On a side note, its weird to think that I am excited about a book shelf. I guess your priorities change. Katie is determined to make me be organized and this is one of her ploys to make that happen. I am collecting more and more books each semester, so this had to happen. We would like to thank Garden Ridge for the opportunity to make way for the school books the semester will bring.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

Well, I hope everyone had a productive New Year's Day. We definitely took advantage of our time off and spent it wisely!

Anyway, I just wanted to share this picture with you guys. This is officially our first snow in Louisville. We got about 1 inch on New Year's Night. It's nothing to get too excited about, but it made me happy to see snow when I got up to go to work on Wednesday morning. This is the view from our patio through the screen door.

By the way...I fully intend to pay back my lovely husband back for the video he posted. I'll let you know when I figure out how. :)

The Xmas Story

You know even after the Christmas season I find myself reflecting on the story of Christ's birth. Honestly, I could think of no better way to reflect than to listen to my wife sing the Christmas story to the tune of "I Will Survive." Please allow me to set the context of the video up for you. We (Katie, Jared, and Chris Covington) are disco sheep telling the story of Christ's birth. Chris and I are the back of dancers. Kick back and enjoy the truth of Christ told from my beautiful wife's voice. Please spread the word about this video. Katie has no clue I'm doing this! As a final thought, I love my marriage.

Happy New Year!

Well, it's official...another year has passed us by! Is it just me or do the years seem to go by quicker as we get older? I normally do not make New Year's Resolutions, because I do not like setting myself up for failure :) But, this year I am daring to make one: to be a more committed blogger. Now that we have gotten settled in our new home in Louisville, hopefully I will be able to find more time to keep you updated on the excitement in our lives.

Anyway...on to our new year's celebration. First we went out to dinner with some of our best friends--the Kinkades. In case you don't know our history with the Kindades, here's the short version. Emily and I became friends my freshman year of college. We served on a leadership committee at our church together and got to know each other pretty well as we headed up the greeter team :) Then, about 3 years later, Jared moved in with Daniel. Shortly thereafter, Daniel and Emily started dating. In July, Daniel and Emily got married and moved to Louisville and Jared and I moved here in August. So, needless to say, God has continuously put us in each others' paths and we have become great friends. Enough of the Gab...here are some pics of our New Year's Eve Party--Seminary Style :)

After dinner we headed back to the Kinkades' house for some Brownies and coffee. We watched The Breakup with Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn (Great movie, horrible ending) and then played some cards while waiting for 2008 to show up.

Being the good seminary couples that we are, we rang in the New Year with Sparkling White Grape Juice and some sweet kisses with our hubbies.

To End the night with a proper sugar high, Jared finished off the Sparkling Grape Juice and we called it a night.
